Following is the notation found on the first page of the first veteran's book in the Haskell County Museum; the introduction was written by Mrs. Lillie M. Matthews, former project chairperson, as well as former Haskell County Historical Society Secretary:

"This book is dedicated to all the persons who served to protect this great nation of ours and the freedoms that we all enjoy and often times take for granted. All of them gave a portion of their lives and many gave their lives. We hope all of them will eventually be added to these books. However, if your Veteran is not in them it is because you have not brought us your information. This is a work in progress and information will be added as it becomes available to us. We hope there are no mistakes, but if there are we are sorry!"
