Reprinted with permission from the source book HASKELL COUNTY HISTORY, INDIAN TERRITORY-1988 by Haskell County Historical Society, excerpt from "HENRY AND PEARL (AMOS) ROYE" Biography, an article by Claud Roye, pg.498-499:

"Henry Louis Roye was born Jan. 24, 1898 in Pontotoc County, Mississippi, the son of Edwin and Indiana Roye. He came to Haskell County with his family in 1914.

"Pearl Lee Amos, the daughter of John and Mollie (Hill) Amos was born Dec. 13, 1897, in Haskell County, I.T.

"Henry and Pearle were married Nov. 14, 1916, by a Rev. Powell. Their early beginnings were hard. Henry had to resume the responsibilities of a man, as the oldest son of his widowed mother and then the responsibility of a wife and family of his own. They made their home in the Rucker community, east of Stigler, for the first 12 years of their married life, except for one year, when they tried farming in western Okla. They found out that western Oklahoma had its problems too, so they moved back to Haskell County.

"About 1928, they moved onto the farm, which was purchased by Henry's father about 1915 in the Rose Hill community and made that their permanent home. Henry worked in the coal mines, on the WPA road crew and other jobs, while building his ranch and feeding and clothing his family.

"Along with the hard work, grief and suffering, came the good times and fun, which together made the Roye family the strong people they were. The family attended and supported the Rose Hill Free Will Baptist Church.

"Pearle Roye died in May, 1978 and is buried at the Garland Cemetery. Henry, at age 90, still attends Sunday school and church at the Rose Hill Free Will Baptist Church. He has lived alone in his own home since his wife's death in 1978.

"Henry and Pearle had seven children:

"Edwin Forrest Roye born Nov.16, 1917, married Willie Coonfield Daniels, Dec. 1954. Willie had one son, who was grown and lived in Kansas City, when she and Edwin were married. They moved to Kansas City in 1964. They celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary Dec. 27, 1987. They still reside in Kansas City, Kansas.

"Mildred Imogene Roye born August 23, 1910, died 1938 at the age of 18. She is buried in Garland Cemetery.

"Ivan Stegall Roye born April 7, 1926, married Geraldine Warren May 31, 1946. They lived a few years here but went to California and lived there until 1978. They have two sons, Douglas and Wade. Douglas lives in Bakersfield, California. Wade resides near Stigler on a cattle ranch.

"Henry Louis Roye Jr. died as an infant is buried in Garland Cemetery.

"Charles Donald Roye born July 12, 1929, married to Ruth Fraser Oct. 30, 1948. They had five children: Sharon, who died, Chuck - Tina - Marty and Kathy. That marriage ended in divorce and Charles is now married to the former Dee Ford and they live south of Stigler. Charles has the Roye Realty & Developing, Inc.

"John D. Roye born Jan. 13, 1935, married Armeta Pugh in 1958. They had two daughters, Mildred and Denise. John then married Betty Hatfield and they have one son, Shawn. They live at Stigler, Oklahoma."
